Last Friday the 18th of March Tyson & Georgia represented the Hills in the 2016 Country Swimming Championships at SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre.
‘When we first got to the Aquatic and Leisure Centre we both got SAPSASA merchandise, including a jumper, cap and a badge each to wear on our school uniforms. After having a team photo we got to sit in the best seats in the house and watch the freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke races before we could compete in our individual butterfly races. All of the Hills representatives sat together in the grandstands to support and cheer each other on.’
Tyson’s race was first – he automatically made the finals without even getting into the water so his first individual race for the day was the 10-year-old boy 50m butterfly final. Tyson broke his personal best time of 54.0 seconds by completing the race in 52.0 seconds and came 5th in the final. Georgia’s first individual race for the day was the 12-year-old girl 50m butterfly heat, she narrowly missed out on making the finals, but also smashed her personal best of 50.0 seconds by completing the race in 45.0 seconds. Next came 4x50m freestyle relays. Tyson competed first and was the starter for his team. The team came third and won a bronze medal. Georgia then competed in the 4x50m freestyle relay and her team also came third winning a bronze medal, with their time being only 0.1 of a second off the silver medal.
They both had a fantastic time competing for the Hills and while Georgia is sad to have competed in her last primary school race, she is looking forward to what she could achieve next year, and Tyson is excited to (hopefully) have the opportunity to compete for the Hills again next year.
